Specialised Pain Therapy

Working with pain is a cause close to my heart. As a German Clinical Psychologist, my work of the last 38 years has been mainly focused on pain therapy. I also have decades of personal experience with pain following a horse-riding accident as a teenager - I know what it's like.

My work covers a wide range of pain conditions, and the help is always tailored to meet your needs. You can choose from a variety of options, ranging from pain assessment to ongoing low-intensity support to full pain-related psychological therapies. I always start with a free consultation to identify what kind of help you are looking for.

Free Consultation

We begin by having a short chat, either on the phone or via Zoom, to establish what your needs are. This is free, with no obligation and lasts about 20 minutes. If I’m not the right person to help, I will do my best to point you in the right direction.

If we do decide to work together, the first step will be to understand the nature of your pain and what the best options are. From there, I can help you either navigate your way through more of a self-help approach, or engage in therapy for more in-depth change. The approaches are explained below.

Making sense and creating a plan. Pain can be confusing, especially when you receive conflicting information. I will help you take stock of where you are, identify the skills you already have, and clarify the sort of work that might be most helpful. Together we'll develop a clear, common-sense understanding of what's going on and make a plan showing you where to go from here. This might involve working with me, or finding other options.

Getting yourself on track.  This is easier said than done if you don't have the skill-set. I will provide you with the right know-how, and help you learn about what works. With small, regular inputs from me, you can apply these skills to your individual situation. Ideal  if you prefer a more self-help approach. Navigate is done via phone and/or WhatsApp, with you going at your own speed. It's  low- intensity and low-cost.

Therapy works on deeper change. Pain is often complicated by factors such as anxiety, depression, loss, trauma, or just difficult life circumstances that can keep you trapped. In face-to-face sessions on Zoom, I will help you identify and change underlying patterns whilst developing new, better strategies. Using evidence-based approaches tailored to your situation, I’ll help you start moving forward.
